INSULIN FESTIVE LIGHTS

Winter is here ! Holydays season quickly coming up and we are all looking for fun beautiful decorations; and because our lives revolve so much around diabetes I thought I should share a fun way to turn you insulin cartridges into festive lights. If you are like me and keep most diabetes trash around in hope of a way to upcycle it you will love doing this.

I was inspired to do this by @alice.in.type.wonderland and @nerdabetic 's dad who turned their insulin bottles into xmas lights and I imagine the process they used is very similar however I am not on a pump yet and all i have is pen cartridges so I decided to make my own version of it.

I believe celebrating diabetes along for the holydays is important to help us build on our relationship with our own chronic illness towards a healthy and happy life ! As always the best way to do that is to take all our daily struggles and turn them upside down by making them beautiful and fun !

INGREDIENTS

So here's what you will need :

// 10 empty insulin cartridges

// 1 x10 LED lights ( don't need to be simple you can swap hearts or globe decorations easily)

get from amazon >> https://amzn.to/2UKNBB

// AA batteries for the lights

// craft glitter

get from amazon >> https://amzn.to/2Gt2Ufo

// pliers (or strong hands)

// optional - blue/white Tack

get from amazon >> https://amzn.to/2SORwvx

HOW IS MADE

Step 1 - use your 'stronger than me hands' or pliers to remove the plastic tip from your cartridge.

tip: be careful not to break or loose these as you will need them later.

Now depending on the look you are going for steps 2 & 3 are totally optional.

STEP 2 - peel off the label

tip: if you wish to keep your lights more diabetes themed you can keep these on they look cool either way

STEP 3 - fill them up with glitter <3

STEP 4 - insert the plastic tip into the back of the cartridge

STEP 5 - insert the LED light through the plastic tip

tip: if you what the lights to sit a bit deeper you can secure it by inserting a small ball of bluetack inside the plastic tip to keep it tighter in place.

FINAL STEP - Light up ! And you're done !

If you only have a couple cartridges don't worry ! you can still turn them into beautiful xmas decorations by removing the plastic tip and filling them up with glitter. Than you can hang them from the bottle tip with a small piece of string as they look just as beautiful and precious without the lights !

I hope you enjoyed making your insulin xmas lights or other decorations as much as I have ! please show me yours by tagging me in your pictures on Instagram >> here << or Facebook >> here <<

Happy Holidays my lovely diabuddies !!!
